History of medicine of Kirovograd
In the second half XVIII medical school of surgeons was opened in Elisovetgrad, in which preparation of doctors was conducted for an army, that operated at the Turkish front.School lasted with 1788 for 1797 years. For this time from school 153 doctors and subdoctor are let out. At this school studied and began the labour activity of E.Muhin, the name of which carries the modern medical college of Kirovograd.
After defence of doctoral dissertation of E.Muhin long time laid out an anatomy and surgery in the Moscow medical university, where M.Pirogov studied by then. Prominent surgeon, anatomist, founder of the military field surgery of M.Pirogov, one time operated a few on the base of soldieries corps of the Kirovograd fortress. The first mention about medical establishment on territory of the nowaday Kirovograd region belongs to 1777 year.
Then in the fortress of Sainted Elisaveta (present Kirovograd) a combat hospital was created on 20 beds.
In 1785 on his base the Elisovetgrad garrison hospital was organized on 40 beds from the first on Ukraine and sixth in Russia of medical school of surgeons. In 1805 on the base of hospital there was the opened hospital on 50 beds. In that time of treatment was requiring payment - 50 copecks in a day. Free of charge patients which acted in an urgent order and infectious patients treated oneself only.
on May, 18, 1904 openly hospital of Sainted Anna, which had the aquatic heating, plumbing, power-station. Artificial biological sewage disposal worked in a hospital (first in Russia!).
In 1913 in Elisavetgrad 8 hospitals were already counted on 264 beds, 56 doctors, 15 dental doctors, 40 persons of middle medical personnel. The first world war and then revolution resulted in worsening of the state of medical service of population. By the state on beginning in 1924 in town 4 hospitals were counted on 250 beds (circuitous central, infectious, hospital for convict, a worker) and 13 out-patient's clinics.
A large role by then in expansion of city hospitals was played by the funds of social security (hospital cashdesks).
In a time of creation of the Kirovograd region (on January, 10, 1939) per every 10 mils of population there were 27 hospital beds. For years occupation of region (August 1941 is January, 1944) of network of medically prophylactic establishments considerable losses were inflicted. However already at the end of 1944 years 70 hospitals and 132 policlinics worked in a region. On an end in 1994 material well-being of population by round-the-clock hospital beds already was 140,8 per 10 mils of population.
